About UNKS

Bangladesh is going to be a middle-income country. To reach that goal, the government announced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The government is working with private partnerships and voluntary development organizations to achieve this goal. As all the people of the society cannot be equally involved with the social, economic, educational, cultural, environmental, etc. issues of Bangladesh, also all the people do not get the benefits equally due to various reasons. For example, due to the geographical integrity of Bangladesh, the general services provided by the government are not always possible to reach the scattered areas. Considering the type of natural disaster, the government, various social and cultural organizations, and professional organizations are to work together in the rehabilitation of the affected people. Due to the different languages and cultures of the small ethnic groups living in Bangladesh, education, religious places of worship, and social rules are made for them. And the socio-cultural organization of various professions of that society is associated with it. There are many factors involved in the healthcare sector such as health education, health research, emergency care, long-term care, and maternity care for expectant mothers. Private and voluntary organizations are directly involved in these activities. We have also had to urgently resettle more than a million displaced people from neighboring countries. Which is quite impossible by the government alone. In a word, various social organizations, professional organizations, religious organizations, and political organizations are directly involved with the government in all the work of Bangladesh.

Upoma Nari Kallyan Sangstha is a local voluntary social development organization of Cox’s Bazar district. This organization has been working since 2017 with the goal of positive change in the socio-economic condition of poor women in Cox’s Bazar district. Upoma thinks that providing employment to the educated, semi-educated, newly literate, and illiterate unemployed in Bangladesh is a big challenge. According to the Labor Force Survey 2022, the unemployed population in Bangladesh is 3.6 percent. The total number of unemployed is 26 lakh 30 thousand. Among them, 16 lack 90 thousand men, and 9 lakh 40 thousand women are unemployed. In order to provide employment to the specified number of unemployed, they should be trained in specific trades and made skilled. That is why training is significant. Keeping this objective in mind.

Upoma Nari Kallyan Sangstha has been organizing and providing training for women to develop their skills. One of them is tailoring for making clothes, rearing cows, cottage industry, handicrafts etc. Providing financial support to a small number of trained unemployed to create business opportunities where applicable. With the income from the business, they meet the family expenses and repay the debts. After a while, they will become self-reliant by paying off the debt.
